Jacqui is currently working on her third recording project, “Tierra”. In 2019, Jacqui moved to Puerto Rico on a passionate quest to learn more about the native music of her heritage. She explored the genres of bomba, plena, and bolero as she became engulfed in the music scene of San Juan. “Tierra” is a heartfelt account of Jacqui’s pilgrimage on the island, and search for deep connection to blood and ancestry. The album is a story-forward artifact surrounded by history and culture, all painted against the landscape of the tropics, and sounds of jibaro nature. As always, there is a healthy dose of jazz, emotive horns, and improvised vocal conversations. Jacqui composed several of the songs during the pandemic when she was under strict, isolated lockdown in Puerto Rico for 10 weeks.
